A CLOSED LOOP: BETWEEN RECYCLING AND RENEWABLE ENERGIES

There are a number of fundamental differences between appearing and being a sustainable company. Being sustainable means choosing to follow a series of virtuous convictions, to work in compliance with profound choices and to put every activity into practice by becoming responsible for its impact on the surrounding environment.

To better understand the dedication with which a company tackles the issue of sustainability, it is essential to underline the difference between two terms as connected as they are different: recyclable and recycled. When a product is made of recyclable plastic, it means that the plastic used for the production is new and it can be recycled only in a second moment. This means that the plastic material was not born from a recycling process, but from brand new resources, processes and energies – such as oil distillation, melting and crystallization – which have generated new plastic that is only potentially recyclable.

A product made of recycled plastic, on the other hand, is a product that is created avoiding the polluting processes typical of plastic processing. This is done using already existing plastic materials, processed using renewable energy. Choosing to engage in the use of recycled material is, therefore, an action as basic as it is fundamental for a sustainable company: it is for this reason that all Hot Form PET trays are made up of 90% recycled! Furthermore, there are also 100% recycled trays with EFSA certification: European Food Safety Authority. Consequently, thanks to the materials and energies used in the production of the trays, all Hot Form products are also 100% recyclable.

In addition to the attention in the use of materials, Hot Form is committed to the use of renewable energy sources for it’s own production process. In fact, thanks to the energy produced by the cogeneration plant, the company avoids the introduction of approximately 1,650 tons/year of CO2. Consider that a tree during its growth absorbs about 46kg of CO2 per year, this means that Hot Form commitment in limiting the carbonization rate potentially saves 35,870 trees, equal to about 120 hectares of wood.

Being a sustainable company, therefore, materializes in the real use of renewable sources and in the zeroing in waste production. Hot Form, thanks to a deep know-how has managed to create a CLOSED LOOP system in which the recycling is the essential element. In this process, where all the waste materials of the finished products are reused, the company creates new products of high and certified quality.
